All treatment decisions are guided by patient preference, clinical evidence, and ethical standards.
If botulinum toxin injections are not appropriate, alternative options may be discussed, such as:
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
Nerve blocks
Intrathecal Baclofen (ITB)
Intrathecal Phenol (ITP), where appropriate
If Botulinum Toxin Is Recommended
Written informed consent is required for the first treatment
Injections are performed using anatomical or ultrasound guidance (subject to availability)
A follow-up plan is agreed upon (typically 6–8 weeks)
A clinic letter is sent to both the patient and their primary care physician
Patients receive contact information for concerns within 72 hours after the procedure.
What to expect during Follow-Up Consultations?
At repeat visits, we will:
Review response to prior treatment
Assess any side effects or health chang
Re-evaluate goals and outcome measures
Adjust the treatment plan if needed
Provide updated documentation to the patient and GP
Repeat injections are offered only if clinically appropriate and aligned with patient goals.
Important Points:
There would not be a provision to provide physio led stretching regimes during the appointment. Efforts would be taken to provide necessary follow up plan and educational material if beneficial.
Permission may be required to use limited patient data for improving this service.
To deliver the best service as per guidelines in MDT approach, we encourage your therapists or any professionals, carers or family members to attend the appointment.
