The Referral & Assessment Process

Facilisi commodo ac consequat erat risus duis velit quis fermentum feugiat sit bibendum sed pellentesque semper maecenas posuere cursus gravida enim ipsum lacus ut tellus ut vel.

1. Referral Received

Your referral is reviewed promptly.

2. Initial Triage

A brief telephone consultation may be arranged to clarify concerns, goals, and suitability.

3. Face-to-Face Appointment

If appropriate, an in-person consultation is scheduled.

Please bring:

1. A current medication list 2. Orthoses or mobility aids 3. Relevant medical documents

Comprehensive Clinical Assessment

During the appointment, we will:

  • Perform a detailed neurological examination
  • Assess mobility, positioning, and orthotic use
  • Review medications
  • Discuss symptom control options
  • Establish realistic, goal-oriented rehabilitation plans

All treatment decisions are guided by patient preference, clinical evidence, and ethical standards.

If botulinum toxin injections are not appropriate, alternative options may be discussed, such as:

  • Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
  • Nerve blocks
  • Intrathecal Baclofen (ITB)
  • Intrathecal Phenol (ITP), where appropriate

If Botulinum Toxin Is Recommended

  • Written informed consent is required for the first treatment
  • Injections are performed using anatomical or ultrasound guidance (subject to availability)
  • A follow-up plan is agreed upon (typically 6–8 weeks)
  • A clinic letter is sent to both the patient and their primary care physician

Patients receive contact information for concerns within 72 hours after the procedure.

Follow-Up Appointments

At repeat visits, we will:

  • Review response to prior treatment
  • Assess any side effects or health chang
  • Re-evaluate goals and outcome measures
  • Adjust the treatment plan if needed
  • Provide updated documentation to the patient and GP

Repeat injections are offered only if clinically appropriate and aligned with patient goals.

Important Information

We strive to see patients at their scheduled time. However, due to the complex needs of many individuals (mobility, speech, or cognitive challenges), occasional delays may occur. We appreciate your understanding.
